Our team is looking for a Project Engineer who will have the responsibility for assisting in onsite construction management of the construction of our wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) energy projects in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and eventually throughout Canada.
Job Description
This is a results-oriented role that would suit a highly motivated individual with experience in the renewable energy industry. The expectation is that the successful candidate will be onsite 90% of the time during active construction, on project sites in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The successful candidate will work with SWEB Development’s (SWEB) team members with expertise in renewable energy policy and incentives, real estate, GIS, legal, design, permitting, site preparation, engineering and finance. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Coordinate and oversee supplier and contractor performance during the construction of wind and solar generation projects
- Supervise daily site activities and verify that construction is following approved design and procedures
- Performing onsite inspections such as pre-pour wind turbine foundation rebar inspections, verifying and managing time and material related work, and identifying punch list items and site non compliances
- Assist team members in estimating construction costs based on preliminary civil and electrical designs of wind & solar energy projects
- Assist in reviewing engineered civil and electrical drawings for projects in construction
- Attend construction management meetings on construction sites over the course of the projects
- Provide regular construction updates to senior management, lenders, consultants, etc.
- Support the pre-construction team with equipment delivery requirements and environmental monitoring, environmental mitigation, etc.
- Assist in tenders for EPC and construction services
- Support the team based on know-how and experience in respect to design, equipment selection and changes as well as managing utility and contractor schedules
- Supporting the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems as required
Once you clear that hurdle, the following would be an asset:
You
- 2-5 years of experience with construction of major infrastructure projects
- Ability to support schedule planning, execution and compliance
- Experience with budgeting processes and budget monitoring
- Business mindset and willingness to support the team with expertise and cost assumptions for the benefit of projects in development
- Strong knowledge of worksite safety requirements and best practices
- Working knowledge in respect to the function and construction of substations, wind turbines, solar photovoltaics, battery energy storage systems, or collector and transmission systems is considered an asset
- Experience with civil engineering work such as road design, foundation design, cost estimation, construction support services, etc. is considered an asset
- Experience with electrical engineering work such as power line design, substation design and commissioning, and balance of plant systems is considered an asset
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities, strong attention to detail, extremely organized and able to manage a myriad of competing priorities
- Able to summarize complex issues and convey information to enable efficient decision making
